Safeguarding

Important:

Please call the Police on 999 if an adult, child or young person is in immediate danger!

If you are in danger and unable to talk on the phone, call 999 and then press 55. This will transfer your call to the relevant police force who will assist you without you having to speak

Safeguarding means protecting a child, young person or adult’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect.

It is about people and organisations working together to prevent and stop both the risks and experience of abuse or neglect, while at the same time making sure that the person’s wellbeing is promoted including, where possible, having regard to their views, wishes, feelings and beliefs when deciding on any action.

Making safeguarding personal

Making safeguarding personal means putting the person at the centre of everything the Derbyshire Safeguarding Children and Adults Boards do during a safeguarding enquiry from the very beginning to the very end.

If you report abuse they will:

  • listen to you
  • understand your wishes and feelings
  • take you seriously
  • treat you with respect
  • support you to feel safe
  • support you to make your own decisions
  • keep you informed and involved
  • tell you what will happen next

Derbyshire Safeguarding Children and Adults Boards are working hard to make sure that every child, young person and adult are treated in this way during the safeguarding process.

If you are a child or worried about a friend, please see our Children/young people page.

If you are a parent or carer and worried about your child, please visit our Parents and carers page.

If you are worried about a child who is not related to you, please visit our Worried about a child who is not related to you page.
